This unique relationship with extreme sports and record-breaking events started in the year 1927 when Mercedes Gleitze made an attempt to swim across the English Channel with a Rolex Oyster watch around her neck. Today, there are numerous sporting events sponsored by Rolex, and the excellence displayed in many of these events has become synonymous with a name that implies nothing less than excellence and achievement: "Rolex."
