The film was a huge success and the highest grosser that year. She played the female lead in the beautifully told film Serendipity in 2001. Kate was playing Sarah, a girl who meets and keeps meeting the man she will eventually fall in love with over a period of years while she is engaged to be married to some other. Beckinsale went on to act in films like Underworld and Van Helsing. She was cast as Ava Gardner in Scorsese’s The Aviator a role that she played to perfection and gained considerable weight for.

Her director husband Len Wiseman recast her in the sequel to Underworld called Underworld Evolution.
