Kristin Scott ThomasYou’d expect a beautiful woman to play coy and let delicacy be her signature style. The Rolex Cellini Danaos is a watch that could be beautiful but playing subtle is hardly its choice of behaviour. Kristin Scott Thomas is renowned as an actress who has bended the definitions of beautiful and her stark boldness in the kind of cinema she does and the way she carries herself. The Rolex Cellini Danaos in its own sphere with its capabilities has managed to hold on to its own.

Born in Redruth, Cornwall Kristin was raised in Dorset and was educated in private schools. On graduating, Scott Thomas moved to Hampstead and while working in a departmental store, she began training as a drama teacher at the Central School of Speech and Drama. Facing a lot of discouragement regarding her prospects in acting, Scott

Thomas left for France. She learnt acting in Paris and started her acting career opposite Prince in Under The Cherry Moon. She had initially been chosen for a minor role in the film but her forceful reading for the lead actress during the auditions made the producers think otherwise. In 1988 Kristin played the formidable Lady Brenda Last in A Handful of Dust and delivered one of her finest performances. She received the Evening Standard British Film Award for Most Promising Newcomer for the film. What followed from here was a series of stellar performances in films and television, both French and British. In 1992 she played Fiona in Bitter Moon with a co-star with whom she was going to deliver another hit a couple of years later, Hugh Grant. 1994 was the year the film Four Weddings and a Funeral released and propelled Scott’s career onto the next level in stardom. She was Fiona,the ex-girlfriend of the character Hugh Grant was playing in the film, Fiona still harboured strong feelings for her man but her character was without vengeance. Scott Thomas won the BAFTA and Evening Standard Award for Best Actress as Fiona in 1994.

Rolex Cellini DanaosKristin played Matty Crompton in Angels and Insects and received the Evening Standard British Film Award for Best Actress in 1995. Her role in a film that she signed on to play an unfaithful wife swept the awards for her that year. Playing the seductive and bold Katherine Clifton in The English Patient got her nominated for an Oscar, BAFTA, a Golden Globe and a Screen Actor’s Guild Awards. She received the National Board of Review Award for Best Supporting Actress that year and her portrayal is etched in cinematic memory. She got another round of BAFTA and Golden Globe nominations for the French film I’ve Loved You So Long in 2007.

She has played Sylvia McCordle in Gosford Park, another memorable performance. Kristin was Lady Elizabeth Boleyn in last year’s film The Other Boleyn Girl; this was Kristin’s first corset film. Kristin is also actively involved with theatre acting in the London production of Chekov’s The Seagull, for which she received a Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in 2008. Her other performances on stage include the Three Sisters and as Elma in As You Desire Me both playing at the Playhouse Theatre in London.Kristin was honoured with the Order of the British Empire in the 2003 Queen’s Birthday Honour’s list and was also awarded the Legion d’honneur by the French government in 2005.
