A Golden Opportunity Presents Itself To Represent GBR At The Rolex Sponsored Commodore’s Cup

Rolex Commodore’s CupThe Rolex Commodore’s Cup that is to be held in Cowes, is also one of those events in a yachter’s calendar that is most looked forward to. Whether it be a sailor or a sports enthusiast the Rolex sponsored event has a place for one and all, and it presents to Yachting enthusiasts an opportunity when they can present their skills to the world of sports in a manner most defined and fruitful. This event has a rich history and is one of those races that are played not just for the competition that it offers but more importantly for the spirit that is imbued through this event, a spirit of brotherhood, of a great sport and a dedication to putting across the best that one can offer to the sport of yachting.

The Rolex recognition of talent is a known story that has only been growing in repute from the time that it was established and what the Rolex establishes above all is sincerity and devotion to excellence that goes beyond the regular practice of yachting as a sport. Rolex establishes the need for talent to be recognized, to be brought on to a platform where it can compete for the spirit of competition and nothing else and the best talent is recognized and acknowledged.

The Royal Yachting Association which collaborates with Rolex to create this event has made known in more ways than one that it is interested in drawing participation from potential participants to enroll their names for the event that is slated to come up next year. The 2008 Regatta was won handsomely and most spectacularly by the Team GBR Red, a victory that was expected, yet beautiful to celebrate once it was declared. The RYA has since opened its doors for sailors to put in their names to co-create another winning team that will participate in the 2010 regatta that is to be held in Cowles next summer.

The Rolex Commodore’s Cup is a healthy mix of both inshore and offshore racing, and the event that is held once every two years, presents a very comprehensive program that involves seven days of racing in the waters of the Solent. The RYA Team GBR like the last year’s event will enter a total of four teams and they will be slotted in IRC class rating bands. The plan that RYA is looking at implementing will involve selecting Team GBR at Commodore’s Cupthree teams from the south of GBR and one from the north and call them Red, Blue, White and Black.

The event is open to entries from both ready- made teams as well as teams that comprise individual boats. Once through with the preliminaries of the race, the event will have at least one team being selected after completing the selection trials completely. The win last year has acted as a great inspiration for yachting enthusiasts to give the vent a serious thought and it is only a matter of time before their luck will be tried and it will be proved if GBR can win the challenge again or not.

The Rolex sponsored Commodore’s Cup is taken as a platform by the GBR team to prove to the racing world that what they are going to set sail only to win the event, this will involve a passionate zeal of commitment to practice and dedication to excellence that this team is sure to achieve before the race starts next year.

Impressive Comeback By Michael Whitaker At Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping Series

Michael Whitaker

The fourth leg of the 2009/2010 Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping Series held at Verona, Italy made for a striking comeback by Michael Whitaker. After his suspension in June, it seemed like the British showjumper was on a mission. Even though the course created by Conrad Holmfeld and built by Frank Rothenberger proved to be extremely challenging with six retirements in the first round, it could not hold back Michael Whitaker. The 49 year old was the second in line at the five-horse jump-off and dominated the results with Insul Tech Amai. The runner-up position was slotted by Gilbert Bockmann from Germany while Kevin Staut from France finished third. Michael Whitaker cherished his win as it earned him his first-ever Rolex timepiece. He stated the course to be tricky and was all praise for his nine year old Belgian-bred Insul Tech Amai who has been with him for the past three years.

Michael Whitaker successfully put all the controversies surrounding him behind and entered the Italian fixture in top form and was all set to prove a point to himself, his fans and the fans of jumping. On the 5th of November he came second with Portofino and on the 8th of November he decided to change the horse and compete with Insul Tech Amai as the latter horse had longer legs than Portofino. Competing in the Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping Series was an ideal opportunity for Michael Whitaker to jump back and rid himself of the controversy. Rolex supported sporting events have proved to be challenging grounds for all sportspersons. However, competing in these events is a matter of honour and prestige for sportspersons the world over. All Rolex supported competitions are egalitarian and provide a world-class platform

Rolex

for all sportspersons. Rolex has pursued its aim of promoting human brilliance while sponsoring sports competitions and events. Its sole aim is to recognize and introduce the best sports talent to the world. Rolex also rewards its winners appropriately for their performance with Rolex timepieces that symbolize precision.

Michael Whitaker stopped the clock at precisely 37.49 seconds. The precise timing can be relied upon as only a Rolex clock is used to time the events at the Rolex FEI World Cup Jumping Series. When only five riders were left to compete, Gilbert Bockmann and his stallion No Father’s Girl were first up. They set a clear target of 38.14 seconds with a brilliant performance on the course. However, Michael Whitaker who has been performing fantastically since his return with a fourth-place finish at the World Cup in Syracuse stormed the track with Insul Tech Amai and took the lead. The Italian crowd eagerly awaited for the turn of their very own Natale Chiaudani. Natale Chiaudani is a European team silver medallist and his mare won the Grand Prix at Donaueschingen in September. However, the excited crowd soon gasped as the mare hit the vertical three from home and later both the elements of the penultimate double and collected 12 faults. Eric Van der Vleuten of Holland who is number two according to the overall standings, collected eight faults.

Rick Astley And The Rolex Yacht-Master II: Irony Of Contributions

Rick Astley

Rolex has made major contributions to the world of watch-making by being the first to manufacture a watch that was waterproof down to depths of 100m and to feature automatically changing day and date on the dial. A singer who has unknowingly made a contribution to the Internet and English language is Rick Astley. Around 25 million Internet users were tricked in 2007 into watching Rick Astley’s 1987 video “Never Gonna Give You Up” by posting it under the name of other popular video titles. “Rickrolling” is a term coined to define this practice. The prank caught on so well that YouTube pranked its users on April 1, 2008 by making every featured video on the front page a Rickroll. However, the contributions of Rolex in the world of sports have been more of the serious kind. Rolex has promoted human brilliance in sports by supporting competitions like golf, sports car racing, eventing, sailing, etc. The most prestigious and personalized reward that Rolex gives to the winners of these competitions are Rolex watches and the most popular amongst them is the Rolex Yacht-Master II.

The most popular song by Rick Astley was the hit single “Never Gonna Give You Up” from the album Whenever You Need Somebody that topped the charts in 16 countries. Born Richard Paul “Rick” Astley, he is a popular singer, songwriter and musician. Although he was missing from the music scene in the 1990s, he made a fantastic comeback in 2007 and accelerated his popularity with the Rickrolling phenomenon. He was voted the “Best Act Ever” for his performance at the MTV Europe Music Awards 2008. He has gained popularity in the genres of music like pop, blue-eyed soul and Eurobeat. He can play the guitar, drums and keyboards. In 1989 he was nominated as Best New Artist for a Grammy Award. In 2008 Rick Astley was the main act at the Northampton Balloon Festival.

Rolex Yacht-Master IIThe Rolex Yacht-Master II has been the popular choice as a reward for the winners of the various sailing events that Rolex supports. The Rolex Yacht-Master II is specially equipped with a countdown feature that is programmable and can be set according to the starting sequences of each regatta. Just like all Rolex timepieces the watch is precise as well as designed for comfort. It has a platinum rotatable bezel and comes in an impressive 44mm size. The 18ct white gold used in the manufacture of the Rolex Yacht-Master II exudes purity as it is processed at Rolex’s own foundry. The timepiece comes with an Easylink that is an innovation incorporated to add to the comfort of the watch even in times of strenuous physical activity. The Easylink helps adjust the length of the bracelet by 5mm in case of temporary expansion of the wrists due to physical activity or increase in temperature or altitude. The oyster caseback and the triplock system further guarantee the protection of the movement from shock, pressure, dust and water. The timepiece is also water resistant even at depths of 100m/ 330 feet. Rolex has always been known to manufacture the most reliable timepieces that ensure precise performance even under the most trying conditions and that is what it proves through the Rolex Yacht-Master II as well.
